“David W. Osler was born and raised in Ann Arbor, Michigan. In 1938, he graduated from Ann Arbor’s University High School and later attended the University of Michigan’s School of Art and Architecture. Osler’s first professional job as an architect was with the firm of Pete Loree, Architect. Osler was the son-in-law of Emil Lorch, dean of the School of Architecture at the University of Michigan. His children Robin Elmslie Osler and Peter Osler both became architects.
In 1958, Osler established his private firm David W. Osler Associates. The firm’s earlier commissions were primarily single-family residences and renovations. Over many decades, Osler developed a diverse portfolio which included commissions for condominiums, churches, and libraries. The firms many awards and distinctions include AIA Michigan Firm of the Year in 2005 and the AIA/American Library Association Library Building Award.
In 1981, Osler was a finalist in the Memorial for the Veterans of the Vietnam War design competition. Out of 1420 competition entries, Osler’s design was one of fifteen to receive honorable mention and a cash prize.”
