West Michigan Modern

Fans of Modernism in general, and those living in and around West Michigan specifically, may be interested to know that the West Michigan Modern Facebook page was recently launched.

The group aims to “link those that have an appreciation of these resources to galvanize support for the documentation to promote these historical assets.”

The project will serve as a complement to Michigan Modern, and aims “to document the state’s rich history of modern design from 1940 to 1970″ by focusing on “on the resources that can be found in West Michigan, the architects, and iconic structures that epitomize modernism in the area.”

Already the group’s Facebook page features a numbers of photographs of some of the buildings found around Grand Rapids.

Additional information and links will be posted here as they become available.

One Response to West Michigan Modern

  1. Eric Steinhaus says:

As an aside – Does anyone know where the Calder outside of the downtown Detroit AT&T offices went? It was located at the corner of Michigan Ave. and 1st St. It has been gone several years now.
